VALUE Awards for Human Service

(Voluntarism, Action and Leadership through Unselfish Effort)

The Delaware County Coalition of Human Services (DCCHS) is seeking nominations of Delaware County students who have helped improve the quality of life in Delaware County through involvement in human service activities (health, education, welfare, housing, social services), demonstrating leadership, initiative, positive attitude, and selflessness.

DCCHS does not provide scholarships or monetary awards, but qualifying students who further the objectives of DCCHS will receive recognition and a framed certificate at the organization's annual luncheon. 

VALUE Award certificates will be given to qualifying students  in each of these categories:

l City high school senior                                l County high school senior 

l Private/parochial high school senior              l Ivy Tech State College student

l Ball State University student                        l Indiana Business College student

Requirements:

Student must be currently enrolled and in good standing at his/her school in Delaware County.
Community service must have been performed in Delaware County within the past 12 months.  Student may provide information regarding community service during earlier years, but focus will be on current activities.

Community service activity cannot be part of the requirements for class credit, such as an internship or apprenticeship, or for any activity for which there is compensation, including work-study for financial aid.  .
Application form must be completed, including faculty signature, and submitted by the deadline.
Application must include a minimum of two supporting letters focusing on the quality, consistency, and dependability of the applicant's involvement in human service activities from community members, preferably adults involved in the student's reported human service activities. 

 Deadline:  Applications must be received no later than March 31of each qualifying year!   Mail to DCCHS, PO Box 1411, Muncie, IN 47308.

 Review & selection:  DCCHS Board of Directors may conduct brief  interviews with qualified applicants in April.  Applicants may be asked how they got involved in community service, how they chose their project(s)/organization(s), how they feel about their service experience, and the impact of their service activities on the community.

Award notification:  May   

Presentation:  at the DCCHS annual meeting in June
